Who she worked with The marketing team is made up of six of us, including me, and to say that I’m a huge fan of them would be an understatement. I worked the most with Abby, my lovely boss, and my fellow intern, Erica. Liz, our fearless VP of Marketing, often oversaw final edits for my reports, blog posts, and social media content, and I worked with Jeff, our Chief Marketing Strategy Officer who lives in NYC, to boost our Instagram engagement and create ads; Erin was a lovely presence on our team meetings, she calls in since she works in Chicago. I think my favorite part about my team is our overall dynamic; I could see myself being friends with all of them even outside of work, and Liz, Erica, Abby and I became especially tight-knit since we all work out of the Boston office. We occasionally had moments where we would say the same things at the same time even, which was a little crazy. Our creative offsite at Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum was a huge highlight, as was the time I went to a free yoga class with Abby along the Esplande! Aside from my lovely team, I worked closely with other Mavrck employees on a regular basis. I worked with Sam, who’s lead of Talent Acquisition, for employer rebranding, and often got quotes from influencers with the help of Ellie, who’s a manager on the Influencer Innovation team! The biggest challenge she overcame I think the transition to having projects that have to be perfected or created for the corporate world vs school papers was the biggest challenge for me. We often had new projects and deadlines pop-up that we had to create with a very limited amount of time without compromising on quality or research. While I’m used to working under time pressure at Hopkins, last second assignments are pretty uncommon. I’m the kind of person who can become stressed over last-second deadlines, so getting used to projects appearing week of took some time. Something else that took some getting used to was the amount of edits that went into a report. One of my favorite pieces of work that we created, the Mavrck Influencer-To-Consumer Brand Report, was initially meant to take about a week, and I was only going to be involved with the first draft. I ended up helping to write this report from start to finish, and we spent a little over a month perfecting it. It was initially surprising how many different rounds of edits we needed, but it just really shows how much Mavrck cares about the work that they release. I’m so proud that I was involved on that report, especially since Abby mentioned that it was her favorite piece of work she’s made since coming to Mavrck! Something she’s proud of The biggest strides I’ve made in learning and growth this summer all revolved around Instagram. I revamped the Instagram story strategy for Mavrck, bringing Subject to Change to our Instagram stories, and this led to more open doors. I’m still wildly shocked and humbled by the fact that Liz and Abby were onboard with me creating the Subject to Change Insta stories by my second week, and this really created a snowball effect. From there, I hosted my own Lunch and Learn about best practices regarding Instagram stories for professional and personal settings! I presented to our entire company, and giving a presentation across Boston, Denver, New York, and Chicago simultaneously was pretty unreal. I was really motivated to give this presentation after Brian, our super cool CTO, and Liz, our fearless VP of Marketing, both separately approached me about it. I was definitely nervous going in, but I’m so proud about how it turned out. With the success of those Instagram stories, I started learning how to use Adobe Premiere Pro to create longer ads to run in Instagram stories, and I also hosted our first official Instagram Takeover on the Mavrck Instagram. Leaving behind all of these projects that I helped create from ideation to execution makes incredibly proud. What’s your favorite part about working at Mavrck? My favorite part about working at Mavrck is the fact that everyone is actually happy to come in to work everyday. It sounds like such a small thing, but I’ve become used to my classmates or co-workers at other jobs consistently dreading the work day or classes. We have days when we’re tired or dealing with stressful situations, but overall Mavrck employees are generally happy to be at work. It makes such a big impact on your overall happiness and productivity, and this was easily my most fun and productive summer internship. The people are fantastic, and I never really felt like I was treated differently as an intern vs. a full-time employee. Aside from that, the fun team outings we had at The Landing, my first Red Sox Game, and Wine Club were always fun! The handful of times we had dogs in the office were also consistently a highlight. What’s something you learned that you’ll apply to the rest of your undergrad/or your next internship? Aside from the different hard skills I’ve learned, such as Adobe Creative Suite, running Brandwatch Queries, etc., I’ve learned that incredibly talented and hardworking people can be found everywhere, regardless of where they might have gone to school or where they may be from. Coming from a school like Hopkins, I’ve consistently had wake-up calls as to how much of a bubble I’m in, and coming to such an amazing company like Mavrck really showed me that there are incredibly smart, good people everywhere. I will be looking for the supportive and hardworking environment seen here at Mavrck in my first full-time job once I graduate!
